on 28th November 2019 organized by Africa ICT Alliance AfICTA. visit here for more information. Dr Jimson Olufuye, Immediate Past Chairman, AfICTA & CEO, Kontemporary Konsulting Ltd. was also part of a Workshop Session at the IGF 2019 on Dynamic Coalition on Core Internet Values on Day 4, 29th November 2019 between 11:30 and 13:00.

The theme of the session was Security, Safety, Stability and Resilience and it was held jointly with the Dynamic Coalition on IoT Session. The aim of these sessions was to examine the necessary policy questions and policy and ethical considerations important for development, deployment and use of IoT as well as to examine these Values in question as “Internet Values”, not as American, Indian, European or Chinese, Values as Core and permanent, not as transitory ephemeral positions that are altered with an occasional Internet Shutdown or a Regional ideology. The expected outcome would be that these Values percolate down as ethics and good practices for the Internet and IoT.

Dr Jimson Olufuye presented a paper on Data Governance on the Internet Space, by the Internet Model where he stated that Data Governance is a multi-layered effort at the national, regional and global level and the need for harmony in the global data governance ecosystem cannot be over-emphasized. He further presented a Comparative Analysis of the European General Data Protection Regulation GDPR, the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and Kenya Data Protection Act (KDPA) before discussing efforts made for harmonized Governance Framework at the global level.

In Conclusion, Dr Jimson said

“As Vinton G. Cert said in his “Agenda for the Next Decade” contribution to the publication “ Towards A Global Framework for Cyber Peace and Digital Cooperation: An Agenda for the 2020s”, I quote “…Having identified problems and issues, the IGF needs to enable and empower its secretariat to monitor and report on progress toward solutions and resolutions. While the IGF is not likely the correct forum for problem solving,…”; and as many others experts have indicated, there is need for there to be an International Treaty providing binding frameworks for the Internationally agreed principles and norms hence the proposed partway of the CSTD as a mechanism for enabling a global framework for establishing a binding Treaty for Data Governance and for the stability, peace and cooperation on the Internet” Read More
